As one of the last limo companies in Chicago that still processed credit cards in-vehicle, the new year brought a new and welcome change, at least as far as our chauffeurs are concerned. For the safety and convenience of our clientele, O’Hare-Midway Limousine Service will no longer be accepting credit cards in the car.
To be clear, this change isn’t in response to a particular safety issue, and our regular travelers are fairly comfortable with the previous system of payment, but we can’t overlook the fact that – like it or not – the steps involved in swiping a credit card, handing a copy to the client for a signature, and printing out a final receipt, is a process better left for the dining public.
It has been the goal of OML to look for ways to employ technology to make the experience of our customers as “pain-free” as possible. But as times change, the needs and demands of the limousine customers change as well. While point-of-sale transactions used to a good idea, they can be cumbersome, especially when a client is in a hurry.
Then there is the equipment issue. The need to have card readers, printers, and laptop devices makes for a crowded front seat. This can be a safety issue in case of a collision.
We’ll always miss the good old days, but dealing with credit cards payments in the car is one of those things that’s day has come.
