Your Chicago Summer: Make the Most of These Great Events
As summer gets underway, the days get longer, the kids get out of school, and many families, couples and groups of friends are looking for great ways to spend their weekends or even weeknights, especially now that they have so much more time to enjoy the outdoors and great weather.
Chicago is a great place to be this summer, where a slew of festivals, events and activities will go down almost daily. If you’re planning a visit to the Windy City or are just looking for things to get into as your summer unfolds, we’ve compiled a list of summer events in Chicago to keep your eye on.
July 8-12, 2015
Now in its 35th year, Taste of Chicago is your summer destination for some the Windy City’s best cuisine and drinks. Food trucks from restaurants all over the city will be on site so you can sample the foods you want at your own pace. While you enjoy the delicious food, live music will take place at the Budlight Stage. Best of all, admission is free.
You will have to pay for parking, and spots will be limited so eliminate the stress of driving by booking a car service. It’s a practical way to ensure that you get to Grant Park on time but don’t have to walk a long distance from a parking garage or stress over not being to find a parking spot.
June 2-7, 2015
Back in 2012, this touching musical took home 12 Tony Awards, including the award for Best Musical. Once tells the story of a weary Irish musician whose passion and creativity is waning, until a beautiful stranger comes into his life and shows him the true power of music to unite us all. Though Once is not a show for the kids, it’s the perfect centerpiece for a date night or a night out with friends.
June 1-July 23, 2015
Every Monday and Thursday at 6:30 pm
If you’re a fan of electronic, indie, new wave, dance and experimental music, Downtown Sound is your summer paradise. Because of the series’ immense popularity, the Downtown Sound has been transformed from a Monday night show to a Monday and Thursday night experience for fans in Chicago.
This summer’s stellar line-up includes Chicago-based artists like Andrew Belle, LA-based Active Child, Mother Falcon, Judah and the Lion, 90s indie prince Matthew Sweet, Murder by Death and Las Cojolites, among many, many others.
Check into Downtown Sound’s summer schedule and start planning your night out now.
June 20-21, 2015
10 am-6 pm
Considered one of the top 40 juried art festivals in the country, the Gold Coast Art Fair is your summer destination to see a range of artistic styles and genres and features art work valued and priced anywhere from $25 to $25,000.
Now in its 58th year, the Art Fair also offers live music and interactive art projects, including a Spin Art machine that lets patrons create their own masterpieces. There will also be separate oases for food and beer, so you don’t have to leave the park to fuel up.
Chicago’s Shakespeare Theatre
July 3-August 16, 2015
If you have kids in tow this summer, head to the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre for their glorious streamlined production of the Broadway smashed, inspired by the Disney children’s classic. The production will take place in the CST’s courtyard, and will run for 75-minutes without an intermission.
Each performance offers audience members to interact with and ask questions to the performers, making it the perfect interactive experience for your kids this summer.
If you’re planning on heading into the city this summer to see a show, enjoy a festival or catch a concert, you might want to consider booking reliable transportation to handle your trips.
With car service, you won’t have to worry about getting lost, a lack of parking or cutting back on the cocktails so you can drive home. You can enjoy yourself to the fullest; when it’s time to go home, you can rest assured that you’ll get there safely and easily.
Here’s to a great summer in beautiful Chicago!
