Why Would O’Hare-Midway Want To Re-Brand?

To someone from outside the Chicago area; or someone that has never used a car service, the name “O’Hare-Midway Limousine Service” probably doesn’t carry a lot of weight.  However, business travelers from Chicago and northeast Illinois that have come to know and trust “O’Hare-Midway” as s safe and reliable transportation provider, offering high quality service at affordable prices.

Similarly, retail customers have grown accustomed to using our stretch limousines for weddings, proms, homecoming dances, and festive “nights on the town”, or to get their families to the airport for vacations and holiday trips.  Knowing this, you have to ask yourself, why would O’Hare-Midway ever consider a name change?

Facing a “Facelift”

The limousine industry has changed more in the last ten years than in the previous twenty, and the rate of change is accelerating annually.

Around a decade ago, O’Hare-Midway had dozens of beautiful stretch limousines in its fleet.  Today, there are six, and at times…six is too many.  In the early 2000’s, as corporate America began to trend away from the “opulent” look of limousines in favor of the more “conservative” look of sedans and SUV’s, the writing was on the wall.  The days of the run-of-the-mill limousine service were numbered, giving way to transportation companies.

Many services in the industry adopted monikers like “this transportation service” or “that logistics company”, indicating that the focus was on getting you there and not so much what vessel you would be getting there in.

O’Hare-Midway sensed that a facelift would soon become necessary, but after a half-century there was fear that a name change might confuse our regulars, or mislead them into thinking that the company was sold.  Then again, as more and more people tried to book limousines that we just didn’t have, we had to face the realization that a limo service without limousines was like lemonade without lemons.

Limousine Services Go Worldwide

The “name jumpers” faced another challenge a few more years into the new millennium; as yet another seismic shift took place in the limousine industry.  Out of seemingly nowhere, the idea emerged that every company should be offering to provide transportation globally.  Now those “transportation” and “logistics” companies were forced to rebrand as “global transportation” and “worldwide logistic” companies.

This idea gained momentum fairly quickly, and while there has always been a handful of true global limo services, the number skyrocketed into the hundreds in a few short years and continues to grow as the need for ground transportation increases domestically and internationally.

O’Hare-Midway: OML Worldwide Transportation

You can’t get wet if you don’t jump into the pool, so we finally decided to jump.  At the beginning of 2014, we’ve been letting our clients know we are rebranding from the more familiar O’Hare-Midway Limousine Service to “OML Worldwide Transportation”.

We are not a limousine service; we are a transportation company that has limousines.  We don’t just go to O’Hare & Midway airports; we provide transportation for travelers in hundreds of cities across the globe, using a network of dedicated partners.

The new OML name is also a little easier for people to remember, and the beauty of it all is that everything else stays the same.  Federal Express did the same thing years ago, simplifying their name to FedEx.  The quality and service stayed the same, the name just got shorter.

To all of our regular customers, the company you have trusted for generations is  still O’Hare-Midway.  But please…feel free to call us OML.
